Freelance Writer/Director & Filmmaker

About

Alexander Buja stands behind camera equipment while directing, standing in a domestic kitchen setting with wooden cabinets and a window visible in the background. He holds a monitor while focused intently on the filming process.

Influences

Alexander is a director and filmmaker with a strong foundation in storytelling, shaped by his early summers spent with his older brother insisting on watching 80s and 90s classic films. Although they were probably a bit too mature for him, they really fuelled my love for storytelling.

It wasn't until his early teens where his journey into filmmaking truly began, with his first camera ---the Canon XM2. This camera allowed him to experiment and create scenes from films inspired by iconic directors like Spielberg, Scorsese, and Cameron. This experience trying to 'figure it out' ignited his passion for wanting to become a director and also laid the groundwork for his career as a filmmaker.

Education

It wasn't until Alexander met a career's counsellor at school, that he really took the idea of pursuing a career in the creative industry seriously. Now at college, his Media Studies course taught him all about pre-production, production and post-production from end to end. This is what allowed Alexander to focus more on his own unique perspective on storytelling, camera framing, and editing, to take shape. Eventually pursuing a degree in Television and Film Design at university, he discovered not only his talent for filming and editing but also the importance of teamwork and preparation within the industry. Working at different levels of production on many of his peers' projects helped him hone his technical skills, allowing him to infuse these skills along with his artistic flair into his work. The strong focus on pre-production and conceptualisation his degree encouraged enabled him to shape his vision and translate ideas onto the screen in a way he'd never considered.

Career

Following graduation, Alexander ventured into freelancing, where he embraced a variety of projects, wearing many hats —from filming live sports to designing title sequences— which allowed him to build a diverse portfolio and forge valuable industry connections. This path ultimately led him to co-found his own production company, Created by TEN, alongside his business partner Andy. Together over several years, they grew their business, and Alexander takes great pride in the success they achieved while delivering projects for incredible clients. From countless TV commercials to brand films, they tackled tight deadlines and seemingly impossible challenges.

Like all good stories, Alexander's time with Created by TEN had to come to an end. After reflecting on what he truly wanted to achieve, he realised that his goals had remained unchanged since he first picked up that Canon XM2—he wanted to tell his own stories and create films. So, he made the decision to step away and pursue what genuinely mattered most to him.

Alexander is excited for this next chapter, where he can focus on crafting narratives that delve deeply into each project’s story. He believes that getting to the heart of what a story is about also means connecting with the heart of the audience. If he can create something that inspires audiences in the same way the films of his youth inspired him, then he knows he has made a meaningful and lasting impact.
